His move from the Netherlands to the United States in 1999 for a full-year internship at the Ritz-Carlton Company marked a significant step in his career development, enriching his experience and earning him several accolades.

A polyglot fluent in English, Dutch, and German, Meijer's global experiences have seen him reside in cities from Doetinchem to Dallas and now Charlotte. His personal life is equally rich, shared with his wife April, their daughter Maxime, and their two dogs.
